Launching a New Site...

Let me know what you think...http://appetitesignite.com

Comments on the new site are welcome...but we're just getting started! So be kind.

Felt like this site is eventually more coffee-table-book-worthy. (You know, my ultimate goal in life, book deal...and the adoption of an Indian child, but will cover that later.)

We'll have to see if I can also keep up with Mrs. P. I think so!

Strawberries Romanov

Of all the restaurants I wish would come to Memphis, the one at the top of my list would be La Madeline. And I would forgo all others for this one "French cafeteria." But as they say, if you can't beat, join 'em, so I re-created their signature Strawberries Romanov dessert based on a recipe site I recently visited and I could tell no difference from the original. Perfect, light summer time dessert.

Here it goes (serves about two people):
1 c of washed and hulled strawberries, I prefer them chilled
1 c of sour cream
3 T of brown sugar
1 T of brandy (and I didn't have brandy so I used Cointreau and couldn't tell the difference)

Mix sour cream, brown sugar, and brandy. Let sit a few minutes in fridge and then stir again. The sauce will be tan color. Place strawberries in a crystal goblet and spoon sauce on top.

Oh yeah.

Date Night 2010

For Mother's Day, I requested the most extraordinary of gifts--a night out with my husband for dinner and a movie.

I chose the movie Date Night with Tina Fey and Steve Carrel because I like them both and was told it was funny and it was. But it also was truly relatable to me (perhaps with the exception of the car chases, guns, gangsters and strippers). I made the observation that you know what, even those Hollywood types have the same "parenthood" issues like us normal folk or they would have never been able to write a script and find the actors they did with such chemistry. Yep, those two portrayed married life with a child to perfection (oh - and Marky Mark - hilarious). For example:

1) At one point, Tina Fey says, at the end of the day, she just wants to wash off all the food and boogers and go to bed. I hear you sister.
2) You get married and you become a nerd...the characters were total dorks. But I can relate. And I attribute this to the fact that you no longer can keep up with pop culture as who has time to watch TV or read a newspaper. I had an agency last year submit ad copy that said "that's how we roll" and they had to explain to me what it meant as I had never heard the term. I did not approve the copy. Old fogey that I am.
3) How come the "I'm going to count to three" threat as portrayed also in the movie, usually works? Given I've never gone postal with my child, I'm not sure what he's expecting if we get to say #4...but for some reason this works. Go figure.

And not covered in the movie but a constant question mark.
4) How can one more person in the household attribute to so much laundry? I can't recall a time pre-child where we did two loads a day. The husband did five loads (yes--sheet day) on Sunday for me and the basket today (Tuesday) is overflowing again. Seriously?

Anyway, Date Night is only 90 minutes. Find the time and go. You'll enjoy it.
