Leave it to Panera to give me yet even more blog topics...
So I'm in there the other day to get a bagel and then decide spur of the moment to get a bacon, egg and cheese bagel. For context, I have to have my eggs scrambled or no thanks. The conversation with the counter girl went like this:
Me: I'd like a bacon, egg and cheese jalapeno bagel please. Can you scramble the egg?
Her: No, our eggs are only fried.
Me: Oh, so they come pre-prepared or something?
Her: No, it's a fresh egg.
Me: So they can't run a fork through it?
Her: Don't know, I just push the buttons.
I couldn't even be irked as this was the funniest turn of phrase I've heard in a while. I plan to use it in every day life. How many things do we do in life/work, etc. where we just push the buttons? Our opinions on matters are just entirely inconsequential. Love it! Thank you Panera Counter Girl.
Later I wondered, why is it so hard to scramble an egg? I guess it's some sort of Panera gateway drug as just as soon as someone's egg is being scrambled, another will want it poached or hard boiled, and then you've got an egg crisis on your hands.
