Tennessee Animal Safari

I'm not an animal person. I'm just not.

Still there? (I ask because some people would have moved on to another site by now.) If you need a little day vacay with the kids, I have a good idea. Especially, if you are an animal person.

Tennessee Animal Safari is about 15 minutes west of Jackson, TN, or about 75 miles outside of Memphis. We went there as a day outing Memorial Day weekend. It's a drive-thru safari park. Which, to me, is just sort of nifty thing and seemingly so exotic to be in the prairies of TN. They have buffalo, emus (is that a creature? I'm going of memory), donkeys, wild pigs, zebras; and then as a side, they have monkeys in a cage and a giraffe you can feed. They give you this menu of creatures you'll see, and obviously I didn't keep it. But it was handy on the ride to know what it was you were looking at and where it hailed from.

The drive-thru is about a mile long, a big circle. The price is per person, not per car. I want to say that it was $12pp but don't quote me. And then the feed is extra, but since I don't like animals, I had no interest in feeding them from my car. The car in front of me however, was all about some feedings.

They also had, sort of randomly, a log cabin on the site. I can only assume this was indigenous to the land at some point. And all I could think to myself, was thank the Good Lord that I did not live back then. If I had, I would not have lived long. I don't know how anyone stood the heat in the days prior to AC, especially with all the clothes they had to wear and all the kids. Nobody could have possibly smelled good or been happy to be around, but I digress. Below are some pictures of the excursion.

That's the hood of my car. I was a little bit scared, but it was cool all at the same time. I kept thinking, how do they keep people from freaking out and potentially running over the animals? I wonder if that's ever happened?

Anyway, good trip, fun for kids and great for animal lovers.
